History
Hotel Pendini is located in the very heart of Florence, in Piazza della Repubblica, the vibrant pulse of the city.
Around two thousand years ago, in this very spot, a Roman military camp—established to oversee nearby Fiesole—gave rise to the first urban settlement on which the city of Florence would be built.
For many long years, the district surrounding Piazza della Repubblica was the Jewish ghetto, and the square itself served as the city’s bustling marketplace. With the Unification of Italy and Florence as the capital, the entire district and city center underwent profound transformations, embracing the elegance and atmosphere of the belle époque.
The old buildings were torn down and replaced with new, refined, and elegant palaces.
In 1879, construction was completed on the palazzo with the grand arch in Piazza della Repubblica, where Maria Pendini, of the Pendini family—builders of these properties—decided to begin welcoming travelers at the end of the 19th century.
Thus, Hotel Pendini was born.
